Snow day

Whenever our gorgeous view includes snow on the hills I play a game with known features and an OS map and work out exactly how low the snow-line is.

I don't need to do that this morning - it's low!  Not a single little chilly snowflake at Bag End, but all the 'big' fells are thoroughly covered as well as the lower slopes which often do not get as much.  A peep at the Cumbria County Council weather cameras showed various roads to be as messy as expected.

I had thought of going out but didn't really need to, so stayed at home.  In the morning low cloud meant lack of contrast and we couldn't really see much.

Even diminutive little Watch Hill above Cockermouth had a good dusting.

Later in the day things improved a little 😊

Zooming in on the north side of the Loweswater Fells.

Right now I can hear rain and high wind, but I do not fancy going outside to investigate.  That either means all the pretty white stuff will wash away, or if it is cold enough on the tops there will be even more by morning.

  1. Looks lovely, but do understand the reasons for not venturing too far. I hated driving in the snow when we lived in Batlow, but there were times when it was necessary with kids at school & work. DSD said they had some white stuff in Scarborough yesterday too. Take care & stay warm.

    1. Even when it is bad here, we are so close to the main road that driving is not particularly difficult.

  2. I was so excited to wake up to snow this morning. We've had such a fun day, which included snow angels, a snow ball fight and some mulled wine! Sadly, it's all gone now (the snow and the wine!) X

    1. Hi Jules, I saw you'd been up Castle Crag, looked lovely.
Last night's wind and rain has pretty much cleared all the snow here too.

  3. The white stuff looks very pretty on the hills but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. We were promised it down here over the weekend and though we did have hailstone showers a few times yesterday it didn't amount to anything more.

    1. Hi Eunice, glad you didn't get bogged down, and hope you have some good boots with grippy soles for when it does get nasty.

  4. We had a dusting at home and went for a walk to find more. It has gone at home but it is still on the hills which, like you, I can see from my house. I think I prefer the sunny very cold weather to the cloudier rainy warmer temperatures even if it does make it harder to get about. The hills of the Lake District always look wonderful with snow on them.

    1. I saw your walk and it looked lovely. Definitely agree that very cold but bright is far easier to deal with than damp and mild.

All our snow is gone now, think there will be more over your side.

  5. Your white stuff is certainly thicker than ours. We have hills with 'dandruff' it had been prettier until the rain came and smushed it all! xx

    1. Thanks Kate. I saw your 'christmas card walk'. Was that Pendle looking all white and impressive?

  6. No sign of any snow here, which I'm glad about. I do love to see snow, I just don't like venturing out in it. Your photos are so pretty.

    1. You don't want snow in a city Jo, always seems much worse in built up areas with too many cars on the road.

  7. Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! Happy to hear from you.

Sorry that things are 'not-so-good,' this week. And hope they will improve. Last year at this time, my husband was very sick. This year, every little thing, is good! In contrast!

We had snow. Then the rain, etc., washed it away. Now we got some more snow. But the temps are frigid. This snow will stay. -smile-

But agree, it is not for going out in, unless necessary. We canceled an appointment, yesterday... Did not want to drive in it. Or sit in a waiting room with people, who might have colds. It was just a routine eye exam, and it is now rescheduled.

Again, good to hear from you again!

Gentle hugs from across the Pond.

Thank you for leaving comments, I love receiving them; sometimes they are the only way I know I am not talking to myself . . . 😊
