Thank you for all the interaction today.

What fabulous things you kind people say - both M. and I are very touched by all this.

I'm going to try something - I've changed the Bag End settings to allow comments from all.  This is because I have had some wonderful direct messages (you can use the 'Get In Touch' gadget on the side) from ladies who have said "I don't have a Google Account".  And I 'get' that, I will not use  Facebook.

So I have amended the comment settings to allow comments from anyone (well, I think that's what I've done!)  The price you pay for that is Verification . . .

If it all goes Pete Tong I can change the settings back to what they were (which is Google a/c only).

And now I am going to watch last night's Sewing Bee.  Like Jo at 'Through the Keyhole', I rarely watch live TV much preferring to record, and then fast forward through the adverts when it suits me.  Obviously there aren't adverts on Sewing Bee {grin} but I was too wiped out last night to enjoy it live.

  1. Right, okay then, we'll see if this works :) I rarely watch tv at all as there are very few things which interest me so most of my spare time is spent here on the pc, but in half an hour I'm going to watch the latest episode of Salvage Hunters :)

    1. I don't watch a huge amount, and I watch even less since, about 2 weeks ago, I decided to stop watching any news programmes. I am so sick of the Brexit mess, and I decided that following the debacle on a day by day basis would upset me but not change the outcome in any way, so I am playing ostrich until the end of March.

      M. likes Salvage Hunters, and I know Eileen does too. I like the premise, but I cannot stand the Drew character so I never watch it.

    2. I went in his shop on the way home from Anglesey last September, it just looked like a very overpriced junk shop :( I don't particularly care for him as a person but I do like the programme, and three years ago I did get to meet and photograph his adorable little dog Enzo :)

  2. I’ll just test the new setting for you! Glad to see the change. DebS

    1. Yay, it works. I did this after I got your last email Deb, thanks for testing it out :-)

    2. I saw your exchange with Wisp and want to let you know that there is a two step verification to catch bots if leaving a comment under “Anonymous.” DebS

  3. Pleased the new settings seem to be working. I'm slowly working my way through your blog archives - some wonderful wildlife photos - how lucky to have red squirrels!

    1. Don't get too attached. We have not had Reds since March 2016 when a local landowner deliberately felled trees containing the dreys because it was going to get in the way of his next planning application.

Spoiler alert - the squirrels were killed, he avoided prosecution, and our stupid bloody local council approved his plans. Angry? Moi? Yeah, still pissed and (with the risk of bad karma and all that) hope one day to turn on the telly and learn his helicopter has crashed.

    2. Oh no - that's tragic! I too hope karma does its best to him. Sounds like him and the planning committee all p... in the same pot!

  4. I do this and it works for me.

Allow 'Anyone' to leave a comment. But I have 'Comment Moderation' on. I see and OK, all 'Comments', which come. Then I 'Publish' them. All is fine.

It will be, for you too....

Btw, I don't do FaceBook either.

  5. Ohhhhhhhhhh.... You don't have Comment Verification/Moderation on.

    Ohhhhh....

This way, you are open to SPAM.

As well as to very nice people.

    1. It's OK Wisp, I think how it works is that if you have a Google/Blogger account and are signed in then you will not be asked for Verification. But if you are commenting as Anonymous then you will get the verification. I should log out and try it . . . but it's late.

I don't want to do Comment Moderation, I like people to be able to see their comment up as soon as they have left it. There's always the 'Delete Forever' button for the trash!

  6. It was a good night on the TV last night, I watched Salvage Hunters then switched channels for Sewing Bee. We were in Conwy last week and Drew was in his shop but we didn't go in. Nothing in there I'd want to buy and I've already bought a Salvager cap for my husband. He chatted to Drew outside his shop one day last year, I have the photo to prove it :)

I enjoyed our exchange of emails yesterday Jayne, you were so right about the blogging community, such lovely, caring people.

  7. I hope you enjoyed The Sewing Bee, I watched it last night too, and thanks for the link. Hope that your comment settings work better for you, it will be good to know that people who want to leave a comment can.

    1. Hi Jo, I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought briefly about what it might be like to have the sort of life where I could actually wear one of those maxi dresses. But it's never going to happen, even without dog walking they are completely impractical. I loved the one Leah made, fabulous choice of fabric.

  8. I'm watching more TV than I used to, it keeps me company with background people, otherwise the house is so quiet. But after todays electric bill I think I need to cut down!

  9. I’m so glad you have changed. I felt I was bothering you by sending an email.

I haven’t watched the Sewing Bee recently but I have a new sewing machine now. I’ll have to use catch up to get in the mood again! I hardly watch any television now except for the gardening programmes.

    1. Silly girl - you haven't bothered me. The notes you sent this week using the Contact Me gadget have been a wonderful support, and I hope my replies expressed how much I appreciated your kindness.

New sewing machine - yay, exciting! What have you got?

    2. I have an Elna Lotus. I had an Elna ZZ in the 70’s and made all of my clothes and my children’s. I haven’t sewn for years but thought I would sew for my grandchildren now. I have to wait until after my cataract surgeries which start next week but I can’t wait to get sewing again.

    3. Never used Elna, I am a Janome girl, think they are fabulous machines. Hope your surgery goes well.

    4. Elna is made by Janome now.

  10. Afternoon Jayne

Many thanks for your lovely email (in response to mine). I have no idea what all this Google/Facebook/Hashtag(?) etc., etc., gobbledegook stuff does or doesn't do.

I record quite a few programmes, as you can whizz through it and then delete and not waste time watching rubbish, or repeats (which quite a lot of tv seems to be these days).

Wishing you and "M" better days.

  11. I've just popped a comment on your last post & I've explained why I've been AWOL. As for watching TV, although I do, I'm usually sewing/knitting/crocheting or designing a new quilt(giggle), but do listen. Hope The Bee comes to here later in the year & maybe we'll get some Salvage Hunter too, both shows I've loved over the years. We aren't getting quite as much in UK docos as we used to. I know I'll be recording the last of a series on Discovering Britain & should be able to watch that later tonight. Email you over the weekend. Take care & huggles.

    1. Hi Susan, would I be 'pushing the technology borders' too far if I suggested a VPN so see if that enables you to access UK television?

      M. uses a VPN occasionally to (quite reasonably I think) visit a couple of motorbike sites based in America who, in response to the European "GDPR" legislation, took the easy way out and just completely restricted access to anyone trying to visit from Europe.

I've found access is barred to some quilting sites I used to visit, although I don't care enough to borrow his VPN log in. I know that the BBC are 'wise' to this and actually block lots of IP addresses that are known to be routing hosts for VPN's but maybe someone has a workaround . . . suggest you need to talk to computer-savvy grandchildren, they will know far better than I do !!

I love receiving your comments, you know I do, and always try to respond to each and every one.

Sometimes it is the only way I know I am not talking to myself . . . 😊
