Turkey-free zone

Another ten minutes should do:

Not my neatest Beef Wellington but absolutely deeelish.

Early start and a nice finish

Sainsbury's 6.40am.  I would have been earlier but didn't expect to have to chip ice off the car!

It was rather lovely, years since I have done a silly-o'clock shop, back home by 7.15 for a big pot of coffee.

Still cold at lunchtime, and stayed that way all day.

Cloud building at the end of the day gave us a little bit of a sunset.

It was like this all day, yuk.

Not sure about this

Really not sure if I like this, but it will probably improve when quilted.

Messing around

Saw a 'jelly roll race' alternative on Pinterest and wanted to have a play at my own version.  Used an old Hoffman "Bali Pop" that has been buried in a scrap box for years.

Eye examination

The last five weeks have been overshadowed by the worry of what could happen to my eyesight if the PVD caused a retinal detachment or tear.

Another eye exam this afternoon and it looks like I've dodged this particular bullet.  Some of the floater is still present, but not enough to affect my vision when driving.

Best Christmas present I could have asked for.

Despite having a perfectly good software package which could do this, there is still a lot of simple fun to be had with paper and coloured pencils.

Haven't started the quilt.

Finally, some inspiration

Took some leftover blocks, then made a couple more to match:

Ruddy birds . . .

I know exactly what these blocks want to be, but I don't want to make that particular quilt.   It is not a battle I expect to win . . . so they are going back in their box for the time being.

They're not going to move themselves . . .

The remainder of the bark chip may take considerably longer . . .

More binding

Sure ain't going to win any prizes, but a snuggly, sleepy puppy doesn't care about that.

Extra bark chip

A free half-load on Simon's way home last night, which needed moving sooner rather than later.

Thankfully, a dry and bright day with a "ta da" and finished job at the end

Log basket liner

Didn't expect this to take the entire day, but it ended up being far more fiddly than I expected.

Moving bark chip

Very carefully . . . still concerned about the PVD in my eye, but progress on changing the area below the Big Pond.

Freehand quilting

So out of practice, confidence levels at an all-time low.  No picture of the piece that went very, very wrong.

Log delivery

Our share of a beech tree which had to come down.

Thank you

Unexpected visit from our tree chap, but always welcome.  Freshly chipped beech.

Bag End is taking a little break

It is time for another "blogging break".  I have lost my enthusiasm again, and there is nothing to be gained by forcing things.  Last month I tried hard to post more often thinking that the engagement would help me enjoy it, but that has not worked.

I've stopped before, and started again;  there is no reason to suspect that this break will be any different.
