Pottering about in Keswick

My trip yesterday to Ambleside involved going into every single outdoor shop in the town lookng for new outdoor shoes.  I was singularly unsuccessful.

Management suggested I take a quick trip to Keswick this afternoon to check out all the shops nearer to home.  I was singularly unsuccessful and the search continues.

However, in Keswick I also went into a couple of 'gifty' shops to see if anything caught my eye to use as a coffee tray in Bill.  Didn't find a tray, but I did find myself in Diagon Alley . . .

What is more surprising than finding a magical emporium hidden in a corner of Keswick, is that I didn't buy anything.  We're putting that down to being in shock and there being too much choice.  I'm going to have to go back . . .

A brief aside,  Millers Bridge car park in Ambleside has bays which Are.Long.Enough.For.A.Campervan!!!   Unless you have a van or small motorhome you won't appreciate just how unusual that is.

  1. I don't know how close/convenient Carlisle is to you but The Range has some nice trays which may be what you're looking for - or you could order online but there's a delivery charge. Our local store is just a ten minute walk down the road for me, I got a lovely snack tray with poppies on a while ago :)

  2. Appreciate the thought Eunice, but I’ve solved the tray problem ... will try and add that to the blog soon.

  3. I checked your link and that is a lovely shop, my husband would spend all day in there being a collector of Robert Harrop and loving Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. I don't share his enthusiasm but would enjoy looking in the shop. We went to Keswick a few years back and I'd love to return sometime. In your reply to Eunice I'm glad you sorted your tray problem. We have a Range store opening in Rhyl at Easter and having never been inside one before I shall definitely be paying it a visit.

    1. The 'sensible' part of me knows that buying this stuff is a waste of time, it just gathers dust, doesn't really do anything .... but if I'd seen Molly Weasley's wand I might have succumbed to a small bout of unnecessary consumerism! It is a lovely little shop and I hope you get back to the area sometime.

  4. Sounds like a lovely day browsing, even though you didn't find a tray or shoes. My favourite shops are bric-a-brac/vintage types or reclamation yards. Actually, I don't like shopping of any sort much, but groceries are a necessity so I have to do that. Take care.

    1. Susan, I too used to adore browsing in bric-a-brac/vintage shops but I don't any more. These days I rarely go to any shops, other than food stores - frees up so much time for reading, sewing, gardening, playing with Daisy . . .

  5. Last summer whilst in Dorset, along the coast, we found a few car parks with campervan parking spaces, our hope is it's a growing trend.

    1. Hi Marlene, you would hope so - but I think the trend is to impose more restrictions. Eileen can tell you first hand what a nightmare it is when the "traveller community" decides to park on your doorstep and having regulations (and height barriers) in place make it slightly easier for councils to get rid of that sort of vermin. Unfortunately, as usual it is regular people who are penalised.

  6. It's always nice to have a wander around Keswick. I always feel a bit left out as it seems almost every visitor has a dog with them!
I can almost feel your glee at the parking bays. X

    1. Hi Jules, I know what you mean about dogs in Keswick, always makes us smile too :)

I don't normally use that particular Ambleside car park, I definitely will in future. Keswick on the other hand - not particularly m/h friendly. Their loss . . .
