First snow

All is well at Bag End, so well in fact, that I've been too busy doing other things to make sitting down at the Mac a priority, but I continue to live in my cheerful alternate reality where I believe that One. Day. I will catch up with all the backlog!

This morning dawned grey and dull with cold, flat light that no amount of Photoshop can make look cheerful.  And it was cold, did I mention the cold?

A sharp frost left the ponds with a thin covering of ice and in the distance I could see the first dusting of snow on the tops.

Skiddaw:

Grisedale Pike:

Grasmoor:

I am grateful that none of the neighbours saw me standing on the balcony in dressing gown and wellies - as it was the dog thought I was stark, raving bonkers and went back to her warm and snuggly bed.

  1. Dressing gown and wellies is a look often sported by dog owners and I'm sure you wear it well. 😆
I'm excited by the first snowfall and will now be keeping an eye on the forecast in hopeful anticipation. X

    1. It is regular early-morning attire in this garden Jules, fortunately not too many neighbours about first thing!

  2. I am a soft southerner and I am cold, winter coats, glove and hats are now the norm.

    1. Oh dear, some days we're still wandering about outside in just a fleece top . . .

  3. And I'm hot after a strange winter of more frosts than usual, basically no Spring weather & now even the first bushfire of this season here in Victoria. Crazy!!! Mornings are still coolish, but I'm already watering the veg, as we've had no rain for a week, after quite good falls in Aug/Sept/part Oct. Snuggle up, keep warm & thanks for the pics. Take care.

    1. Dreadful that you have had a bushfire so early in the season, stay safe. xx

  4. There was snow in Settle apparently - but we revert back to normality and wait for the rain to fall instead!

    1. Thanks, I don't mind snow, as long as I don't have to drive in it.

  6. There was a touch of ground frost here first thing this morning but it soon disappeared. I don't watch/read news or weather forecasts but I've heard it's supposed to get colder as the week goes on.

Dressing gown and wellies on the balcony isn't as bad as me - I can often be found wandering the streets with the dogs late at night and wearing just such an outfit! :)

    1. Hi Eunice, I also saw the doom and dire news headlines when I was getting petrol. I haven't yet wandered the streets in my dressing gown - going out of the gates to rescue the recently emptied dustbin is about the extend of my partly-dressed travels!

  7. It's so cold now but no sign of snow on the hills here yet. Daisy has definitely got the right idea :)
