It was sunny when we left home ...

I hadn't planned on a long walk today but late morning the sun came out, it was remarkably Spring-like and packing the rucksack became a priority!  By the time I'd driven to Whinlatter the weather had done one of its quick about turns and demonstrated just how fast conditions can change in a mountain environment.

But it didn't actually rain, the wind had dropped and it wasn't particularly cold.  We set off with no particular destination in mind but we turned back near the little summit of Ullister Hill, the wind had picked up and there was no point in carrying on just to get damp and blown about.

We ended up walking just over 5 miles and whilst Daisy didn't appear particularly tired when we got home she did demand extra food which is unusual.

It was an unexpected walk - I didn't plan to go quite so far and the change in the weather meant it was incredibly quiet and I only saw one other couple and their collie the whole time we were out.

  1. We had a similar experience on Tuesday when we went to Harlow Carr (not as energetic). We set off in brightness arrived in brightness, has lunch at Betty's in brightness. We started round the garden and after half an hour the rain started so we came home. Still we managed a nice lunch - Martyn's birthday treat!

    1. It was Jessica, very calm and quiet, a bit like after snow has fallen.

  3. Thanks for the belated birthday wishes Jayne. Pity about the rain but we had a good day out. We will have to visit again now and have a look around the garden as well as Betty's.

  4. Bring it on over here, we are sizzling. Seems like you are not having the snowy stuff USA are having and quite mild really.
    Enjoy and take care.

  5. We went out last Sunday, a lovely frosty misty morning here but by the time we had driven up to Hartoft on the N Yorks Moors we still had the mist but the sunshine and frost had vanished! Nice atmospheric photos like mine :-)!
