Winter Aconite

I'm not the only one enjoying having these blooms in the greenhouse.

The smell is wonderful too, I never realised what a lovely scent they have.

  1. What little rays of sunshine for winter.

  2. Gorgeous aren't they? Quite a few small plants are scented but we rarely find out. Obviously, the scent is there to attract someone else!

  4. Isn't that pretty? You just can't imagine anything going to the trouble of flowering at this time of year! Glad they do though (as is the bee, I would imagine!)

  5. Thanks all, lovely scent in the greenhouse at present. The other thing I had never realised is that the aconites are nyctinastic (they close at night).

  6. What are you doing in the greenhouse at night?? Have visions of you in your jimjams & wellies and a torch at 3am...

  7. Silly girl! Not in the greenhouse at night (yet . . . wait until I have too many seedlings to prick out and not enough hours in the day).

The aconites start to close as dusk falls and I have noticed them when I've been clearing up late in the day.
