You know it's bad when ...

You have to add Kahtoola Micro Spikes to the wellies in order to get outside safely.

Without this wonderful little bit of outdoor kit there is no way I could have safely gone to the shed this morning to get more bird food, or carried a couple of tubs of logs into the house.

Although we have virtually no snow I have had enough of this, -10 again last night and thick ice everywhere.

  1. I bought a pair of these on your recommendation last year. Still haven't had a chance to try them out yet - maybe that's a good thing though!

  2. Be glad you haven't had to use them yet, I suspect if the forecasts are correct you will get plenty of opportunity before this winter is out.

    These actually belong to Management. Once I realised how lethal the garden was I had the choice of changing to walking boots and using my own or keeping the toasty warm Mud Boots and using his - no brainer really!

  3. For one moment I thought you were stood on the draining board! Love all the bird pics. Unfortunately my bird feeders are in the shade at this time of year.

  4. Ooh -- sounds like you're having a nasty time right now. Ice is treacherous stuff!!! Love to see all the feathered friends, though. Our yard was teeming with activity today also. I saw ruby crowned kinglets, chippng sparrows, titmice, lots of northern cardinals and bluejays, sapsuckers, doves and probably more that I didn't pay attention to. We're having a cold snap also, down to mid 20's the next couple of nights. So, we're keeping the birdies fed well also. We can even get the odd hummer during the winter, so we are encouraged to keep a feeder up for them. Stay warm!!!!

  5. Jill, I know I am silly but even I am not that daft :}

    FFG - wow, that is some birding list. Apart from the doves we don't have any of those species in England, but you probably don't see any of ours either.
