Bullfinch

Just a quick glimpse, first thing. Mr and Mrs Bullfinch having a quick breakfast of mixed corn and fallen sunflower seeds.

The female was not too impressed at having to share with a small chaffinch

  1. My birds must have been scattering sunflowerrs last year - I have one coming up in the greenhouse, growing in home-made compost! Might pot it up and give it a chance.

  2. Good for the birds! I'm all for bird-sown sunflowers, as you know!

  3. I've never actually seen a real life bullfinch but I understand they wreak havoc on fruit buds

  4. A Bullfinch can (apparently) strip 45 buds per minute off a fruit tree. Good job we don't have any here (yet!)
